scart to scart or hdmi ?

Hi

Hope someone can help.

I've got an all in one system and Hdtv.

Do you have to use scart to scart to connect DVD/amp to Tv.??

I've a ps2 plugged into the telly via RGB.

Now can i get a HDMI cable to Component which goes from telly to DVD/Amp.
Bit clueless here as i don't want to purchase a scart to scart lead then find out i can get a better pic with something else..

Unless your Source and TV both support HDMI then forget about it for now and concentrate on getting the best analogue connection between your devices.

A bit of detail (model numbers) on what kit you actually have will help folk advise on the best connectivity plan for your kit list.

i've got a Panasonci 32LXD500 which supports Hdmi and the sony Dav 700. Which has component

I've also got a PS2 which is connected to Tv via component

So Two YUV sources - do you have Two YUV Inputs on your TV?

If not the JS Technology Master 'Component' controller is a low cost 'loss less' switcher you can install between your sources and the YUV Input on your TV.

Using YUV is a smart move and your getting the Optimum signal out of your source devices - HDMI will be of use when you make your next 'upgrade' or add the likes of SKY HD, Blu-ray DVD or HD DVD.

Hello all

Scuba_doo - as simch says YUV Video is a form of 'Component' video.

Your DVD player has a YUV Component Out and your PS2 has (as standard) RGB Out on SCART - with the option to purchase a PS2 HD pack that then gives you YUV Component out.

You can either go SCART to SCART for the PS2 and stick to RGB for that source or add the PS2 HD cable pack plus a YUV switcher and then Input both sources (DVD and PS2) as YUV.

ihshaikh - not better just different!

A lot of manufacturers who offer YUV Outputs will also offer Progressive Scan Out via YUV and the fact that they give you this option tends to indicate they have spent a bit more time and cost on the YUV Outputs so whilst RGB and YUV are very similar if implemented correctly the YUV Outputs often appear to be better than the RGB Outputs.

Of course that all assumes your Display has a decent RGB and or YUV Input

Totally agree with Joe, if you need an extra input then the Master Component Controller is the solution. Also, if you wish to see how RGB is related to YUV and other standards, have a look in the A/V Guides section of my website.
