Post Canon Xl1 frame mode

Has anyone used the frame mode on either the Canon Xl1 or Xm1? I've been looking at the XL1 solely on the basis of its 25fps capture capability. I was under the impression that it was a real frame based capture however it turns out its actually an interpolation up from the second field and as such is little different from a bog-standard deinterlace process. (canon are unable to make a CCD that allows prog scan and pixel shift technology)

The progscan capability is important to me does anyone have any experience of this?
