Recording from a Freeview TV

Hi all, I bought my dad a new Freeview TV - Panasonic TX28DTM1, which he thinks is great, but he's trying to record Freeview from it via his old video recorder, but he can't seem to get it set up. I'm trying to get this straight in my mind. As far as I can figure out, the standard ariel will go into the video recorder, then into the TV. the video recorder will be able to record analogue TV, but how does it get it's decoded Freeview signal - I guess this will have to come through the SCART socket? If this is the case - can all video recorders record from SCART? I'm not sure what Video recorder he has (sorry I know this is all old hat now) but it's lileky to be a bargain basement jobby I would have thought.

Anyway any pointers much appreciated.

Thanks

The Freeview signal can usually be set to output from one of the scart sockets on the Tv so have a look in the user manual.
Connect the vcr via scart to this scart socket on the TV and select this input on the vcr with the vcr remote to record Freeview......it's usually labelled AV1 or AV2 or EXT1 or EXT2 etc.

I'm new to these forum's, i didn't realise there were specialist areas.

I just thought I was being ignored, I'll go and have a read.

Thanks in advance I hope.

Do you have the user manual for the TV?

Yes, but its not very clear, and it doesn't cater for a DVd player. That's why I'm here.

*** is an Euroconnector, ANT input, Eurocable and it refers to External sockets for example, is assumes you know everthing in jargonese.

How does this sound,

Currently

1.) arial to Vcr.
2.) Vcr to TV via arial ext.
3.) DVD player connected to tv's scart socket 1, so it becomes the active signal once a dvd is put on.

Now, if say she wants to record ITV2 while watching BBC1 how do I do it? do I need to connect tv's scart 2 to the vcr, will it work?

Euroconnector is just another name for a scart socket,
Ant input is aerial socket,
Eurocable is a scart lead.

Put the TV onto ITV2, connect a scart lead from the AV2 socket on the TV to the scart input on the VCR and select this input on the VCR with its remote control......it will be marked something like AV, or EXT and try recording for a couple of minutes.......play it back, if it recorded ITV2...fine you've cracked it, if not put the scart lead into AV1 on the TV and try again, if no joy report back,
Good luck
