How about numbers or a specific number? Can be applied to anything. :)

How about something really specific? So not a theme as such at all.
For example:
Portrait of an old man
A rose
Someone digging a hole
A single tree
etc.
etc.
I've always quite liked the competitions in magazines where they print a photograph and then the entrants have to try to reproduce it. These are generally too technical for mass appeal though I think. They generally rely on sophisticated lighting and filters. It's another idea though isn't it.

Fruit/fruity (could be interpreted in several different ways!)
Fatigue (sleeping, yawning, collapsed after a race...)

How about something that isn't left open to so much individual interpretation?
These one word themes are quite vague.
Something along the lines of;
"Out of place"... e.g. using a pint glass as a hammer, a goldfish swimming around in a microwave....
Or "Movie Titles"... e.g. look at rich1's 'up a tube'. Stick a secret agent 007 at the end of that, and wey-hey! You have James Bond.
They may sound unusual but it may get some very interesting entries and will make people think hard about their shot.
Even if not this theme, I think the one-worders are just too diverse.

One for the list:
Congestion
Antpink
01-02-2007, 2:30 PM
Didn't see these on the list, so here goes:
Speed
Solitude
Abstract
or Double Exposure - pics with one photo superimposed upon the other in-camera (so no photoshopping for the same effect) to create a composition - not sure how easy this is to do, or even if it can be faked, but most cameras allow this facility, I think.
Another - Decay - could be anything from rotted fruit to a sharp observation on today's decline of sports in schools......

Here's a few tough ones that I think would inspire some great photos:
Magic
Cold
Future
Empty
Comfort
War
Water
Now these are open to interpretation, which is why I think they will produce some great images!

Personally i dont think it matters what the theme is, each month is a different theme and eventually as the comp goes on we would work our way through all the themes anyway.
Some month it suits one person and not another, next month the same again and so on.
Every month we hear that someone doesnt like the theme, but at the end of the month we always end up with a brilliant batch of photos.
Each month we have a different set of members coming to the fore, thats way it should be.
Everybody gets to have a go, some with slrs, some with prosumers, some with compacts, some enter one month and not the next, there is no other photo comp like it.:smashin:
So come on folks lets not grizzle or moan and just enjoy it.

some suggestions for the list:
Games (eg. from chess to xbox to kids in the street)
Literature (eg. from books to libraries to locations - Northanger Abbey, Bleak House etc.)
Control (eg. from remotes to steering to tai chi & yoga)
And I dont see 'animals' there although I assume that has been done previously (or Birds seems to offer alot of possibilities too)
