Problem Playing DVD-RW On Other Machines.
I have recently purchased the Panasonic DMR ES10 recorder. It works fine, but i have a small problem.
After i have recorded a program onto a DVD-RW it plays back fine on my machine, but doesn't work on any other machine.
If you finalize the disc first, it will play on other players, but you can't then record on it again.
Is there anything i should do on the recorder that could change this, or is it possibly the type of disc?
I am using a cheap brand of DVD-RW (Mr DVD).

My Pioneer has an 'Unfinalise' command for doing just that. Does the Panasonic not have the same thing?

You can always re-format (or re-initialise) the disc for re-use. This effectively deletes everything on it, so you can't add to what's already there. As Mark_a says, you can, with a Pioneer, unfinalize which then does alow you to add more titles.

The sad thing about the Panny DVD-RW record function is after you finalise the DVD-RW the only way to record onto the disk again is to format which of course erases everything from the disk.
I also have a JVC recorder and that allows you to unformat like the Pioneer, add more programs and refinalise which is much more convenient.

Yeah, i can format the disc, to erase all the contents.
I can finalize the disc but then i can't record on it again and it becomes a DVD-R.

Errr.....no, not exactly. Whatever you do, you can't erase anything from a DVD-R. Whereas you can with RW. That's the difference.

DVD-RAM discs recorded on the Panasonic play back fine on my Panasonic S27 DVD Player - no need to finalise on this type of disc. They will also playback on quite a few PC DVD drives.

I know, i'm just saying that when you finalize a DVD-RW, it becomes a DVD-R in terms of not been able to be recorded on again.
