Panasonic DMREH50? ILink? Benefits ???

Hi

I have sky+ and desparately need a DVD recorder as my sky+ HD disk is full (250GB). I also need to transfer my video-camera videos to the DVD recorder.

I am in the process of looking for a DVD recorder and I think the Panasonic DMREH50 is what I want but there is something missing (always is) ILink. But I can easily hook up the camera via S-video, right ?

What are the benefits of ILink ?
Is it speed or quality ?
or something else ?

Thanks for your help.

IME better picture quality. Also since the devices are talking to each other the DVD recorder synchro-stop and start the camera for recording purposes, camera recording info is captured and the recorder can auto chapter for different scenes or dates.

Thanks for the reply sinclair.

So it can also iteract better with the camera using ilink. I think I can live without that to be honest and therefore think the Panasonic DMREH50 should be a good choice. Or should I wait ?

The cheapest I have seen it is around £285, is that a good price ?

Isn't i-link an all-digital transfer whereas s-video is analogue?
If it's a digital video camera I would try to get one with i-link. Or just use your PC..

hi sjw,

Very good point, come to think of it I currently capture using s-video to my PC (using a Canopus ADVC50 DV converter), so my video is being converted Digital->Anlogue->Digital. And to be honest, I am happy with the quality. Having ILink would be a nice to have for me, I think.

I like the feature of the Panasonic which can store 4H of video on disk and me being a cricket fan, would need that space.
