switch mechanism

does anyone know of a piece of hardware that can be bought which is essentially a light switch type mechanism which plugs into a USB port? I want to have a switch trigger various actions on my computer...eg: soft music and a roaring fire screensaver start playing

any ideas!?

You might be better off trying some of the remote controls, as they can be made to trigger things and there is some good software which allows you a lot of flexibility by replacing the driver level.

Otherwise I'd look along the lines of home automation equipment. There is a forum for this here but I've never looked. There are other forums on other sites that look at home automation.

Good Luck in your Search

Cheers

Rajiv
