My parents have just bought a new computer with Windows Xperimental Prototype and I'm a bit lost in the customising stakes.
On my Win98 machine I have desktop shortcuts to turn the computer off and exit to MSDOS. What I want to do is have a desktop shortcut on the new XP machine which logs the user off without having to go through all of the usual "Are you Sure" hassle.
Plus I don't like pressing the Start button to turn the machine off. Any ideas?
For anyone else that wants to do this, right click on your desktop and select New > Shortcut, then add shutdown -s -t xx into the location prompt that pops up (where 'xx' is the time delay you want before shutdown - enter 01 for immediate shutdown). You'll also need to enter a display name for the shortcut.
Once you've done that, right click on the new icon and select Properties > Change Icon and pick one of your choice

Just to add to Kelvins helpful post (which is more or less what I did), you don't need to have the countdown if you don't want (it defeats the purpose of what I was trying to achieve) and by adding the switch of -l instead of -s then it will just log the user off and return to the welcome menu with no questions asked.
don't use the shutdown command for remotely shutting down other peoples computers at work though.... that would be VERY naughty indeed...
But you could set a timer warning them that their computer will irrepairably shutdown in 10 minutes time unless they can find the secret way to stop it.
