Picked up the following yesterday all for less than 20 quid, which seemed like a bargain...
- House of Flying Daggers (2 disc special edition / DTS)
- Hero
- True Lies (hey, I'm a sucka for Cameron!)
So far I've watched House of Flying Daggers...all I can say is wow, I can't remember seeing anything that visually stunning since the Thin Red Line.
Can't wait for Hero...
...and the jump jets taking out that bridge!!!

Hi Nebby...sounds like another gr8 3 for £20 offer ...Ive held back on House of Flying Daggers and Hero ever because I bought Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and found the first part of the film as I can remember waffled on about a load of politics I didnt care to hear about and when they got down to a fight everyone took off like superman lol...are these 2 films anything along those lines...I mean i dont mind wire work but out and out flying is just daft (outside the matrix where there was a good explanation for it lol)
Hero does have a bit of jumping and flying around the screen but it is very good.
Hi Lionheart
So far I've only watched House of Flying Daggers.
There's certainly a lot of wire work in this film, but it doesn't look or feel out of place.
I too found that the flying about stuff in the Matrix was fine; it made sense in the context of the film. But I hate the way this 'effect' has been ripped off in countless other movies, which are supposedly set in the real world - a world where the laws of gravity apparently do not apply!
No flying scenes in Daggers as I recall...but a fair bit of leaping about in spectacular fashion and jumping from tree-top to tree-top! Just sit back, relax and go with it...the movie plays out as if it's a re-telling of a legend, rather than a story grounded in historical fact.
It's all nicely done, and the three lead actors are excellent (with Ziyi Zhang looking as gorgeous as ever!), and I doubt you'll see a more a colourful movie for a while. Simply stunning!

Thanx Nebby and Razor...Im all for a bit of wirework (Iron Monkey made gr8 use of it) and flying in the right place ( The Matrix and Superman)...I will certainly give those films a try then :)

The True Lies, in the shops now, is cut.
I have the old version that was "accidentally" released uncut.
I had the R1 version but it wasn't anamorphic so I sold it on.
