Digital Camera virgin!

Hi,

I'm a digital camera virgin and more or less clueless when it comes to them. I'm thinking about getting one to play with, but don't really know where to start. So basically looking for advice and recommendations on what would be a good digital camera for a complete beginner like me? I would like to pay between £60-100, as anything below that will be a bit naff won't it?

I would really appreciate any help with popping my digital camera cherry.

Cheers!

p.s. Anyone planning to sell one (which fits my requirements) on the classifieds, please let me know. It would have to be in "as new" condition though.

p.p.s Not looking to buy from ebay

Thanks again.

To be honest that's not going to get you much at all. You should be thinking about £200 min. You'll only want better so spend as much as you can now

Look at the canon ixus range to start with

I guess you're a fan of "the last dragon" with a name like bruce leroy

There are some good cameras around £150 from places like eBuyer. To save money choose an older 5MP camera. In many cases these can give better shots than 7MP camera. Although the resolution is "better" on some of the larger MP cameras, the picture ends up a bit noisier due to the decrease in size of pixels on the sensor.

Cheers

Rajiv

PS You might end up spending £200 anyway to buy a larger memory card, but it is not impossible to find a good digital at £150 inc VAT.

If you want to keep under £100 go 2nd hand on Ebay - make sure the seller is genuine though !!

I think for about £90 you'll get a cracking camera to get you going ie

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nikon-Coolpix-...QQcmdZViewItem

From image-resourcing....

Nikon's Coolpix line of consumer digicams has always been well-received, appreciated for their image quality and ease of use. From the sharp Nikon optics to the full range of exposure control, the Coolpix series has satisfied a wide range of users. The Coolpix 3200 continues this trend, with its 3x Nikkor lens (with exceptional macro capabilities), 3.2-megapixel CCD, and well-rounded offering of preset shooting modes. The consumer focus of the 3200 is expressed in its Framing Assist modes, providing nearly infallible framing and exposure metering for entry-level users. Compact and travel-worthy, the Coolpix 3200 is a very flexible point-and-shoot camera, with just enough features to produce great images with minimal hassle. In my testing, the Coolpix 3200's images showed accurate exposure and good color, but were quite a bit more contrasty than I personally prefer. Under average lighting, the high contrast makes the sort of bright, snappy-looking images that appeal to many consumers. If you like sharp, contrasty images, the Coolpix 3200 would be a great choice in a digicam, as it does most everything else right, with great-looking color, an excellent white balance system, exceptional macro capability, and great ease of use.

No brainer at that price..........you don't need to spend £200 unless of course you want this years model.......

Good camera for £99

I had the A80 then the A95 and have been pleased with both. I think the A85 has a few different modes of shooting available too, maybe even a full manual which is useful if you are learning.

edit, just checked and it does. review here
