it was £5 (i remember it totalled £15 inc delivery)!

it was from a web retailer in the US, i think it was Chips and bits or something... anyway it was on the old forum b4 the change...

it was definatly a 5.1 soundcard with 1024wavetable and PCI and made i think by Videologic...?

Any guesses... surely someone must remember the post???

Word of warning.

Aureal Vortex SQ1500 is one of the later designs of now defunct Aureal Inc. They went into liquidation more than a year ago. The rights to the sound card technology were bought by Creative Inc, mainly to prevent further competition developing. Aureal 8830 was considered superior to Creative Live! card. However, Aureal managed to only partially implement Window 2000 drivers before disappearing.

There is recent rumour that Microsoft has bought driver code from Creative in order to offer support under Windows XP.

Although, advert mentions 5.1 you can only physically connect 4 speaker (lower two connectors on the picture). Other connectors are Line In, Mic In and coax SP-DIF.

I think that was probably me that posted that info. I put it into the 'deals' forum.

I actualy bought one, and at the time it was $12.50. Now it's about $9.50. Postage was $15.

Total was less than £18, and therefore custom free.

I'm using it in my desktop pc, and it seems to work fine. Not tested the spdif yet, though I think I'll try it out just to see if it works ok. Everything else appears to. I originaly saw it here:

Hope that helps.

Gary.
