cant really remember last time i went but i think it was when blade 2 was released.

so it sure was a long time ago, i dont go anymore because the ridiculous costs just to watch a movie on a 100"+ screen.

and if u buy pirate dvds then u can watch it time and time again on your own tv for nothing whenever u want for nothing

but when was your last visits?

discuss

I go to the cinema on a regular basis, I try to go at least once a week, but lack of time due to work and other commitments means I don't always manage it.

I have a UGC unlimited card, which means I can go as often as i want for £10.99 a month, so the more often I go, the more I save! :smashin: So for me this represents much better value than buying dubious bootlegs from the car boot sale.

Personally I don't agree with pirate DVD's at all, a couple of guys at work often bring them in and call me a snob for not being interested, but I'd rather go to the cinema, even if it is often full of chavs - usually get around this by going mid week or a couple of weeks after a film has started its run though.

I agree with you.

I really enjoy going to the cinema to see a movie, although I am more often than not disappointed by the film itself. There are some right turkeys out there, which in a way makes the good ones all the more enjoyable! :smashin:

The chavs can be a pain sometimes, but I generally have a high tolerance for that type of stuff and normally they are at their worse befor the movie has started rather than actually during it. I have less tolerance for pirate DVD's  , which is a different topic.

The last time was Star Wars Episode III. Before then it was Return of the King.

I now have a projector and while watching Star Wars I kept thinking the screen looked small compared to me sitting 2.5 metres away from my own one. The sound was rubbish as well.

I wouldn't miss the cinema if they all suddenly disappeared one day.

I think Chavs and pirate dvds should all be staked out on the moors

Last time I went was to see that one about the WWII pigeons with the kids. The kids enjoyed the movie but afterwards asked me why the picture was fuzzy and it sounded funny  Even at that age they can tell the difference :smashin:

I would however never buy pirate DVDs as I know people who sell them and know where the money goes :thumbsdow

But what is the point in paying thousands for home cinema kit just to play something with terrible picture and sound

Pirate DVD's are a waste of time. I have ONE and that is Star Wars III. I took the kids to see it three times and they still wanted to go every week so a friend offered to get me a copy for them to watch at home until the official DVD is released.....it is watchable but even my two young sons complain about the picture being soft and the sound not being in 5.1

Anyway, the last time I went to the cinema was to see The War Of The Worlds. My Wife and I used to go quite often and put up with the idiots on mobile phones and the bad picture and sound quality but since we got the projector we have both been less bothered and spent more money on DVD's to watch in the comfort of our own home :smashin:

Pirate DVD's are a waste of time.

Totally agree, just some camcorder recording in the cinema looks crap.

I have been to the cinema this year more than last year, i think, and i have only been twice this year. I have been to see Batman Begins and War of the Worlds.

Hadn't been all year until SW: Ep III, I've been twice more since then (WotW and BB). I have to say the experiences haven't been great, I do try to avoid the cineam unless they are essential cinema releases.

The last time I went was when Warriors was released, must have been round about 1980 or something like that !

War of The Worlds for me but I go less and less these days as it seems that most of the audience can't manage to go for 2 hours without unwrapping sweets or taking a phone call, really gets on my nerves.

Buying a new house at the moment so a garage conversion to a cinema is high on the to do list...

last time i went was to see the release of blade two, the cinema was packed and i had to sit next to some dirty individual who stank, spent most of the time leaning well away from him which left me with a crooked neck, got totally fagged of with the rustle of sweet rappers and the constant murmering from all around and it cost about 7 quid into the bargaining and the place was like someone had given birth on the floor, now i would rather wait till the film comes out on dvd and watch it in the clean comfort of my own home and sofa, knowing all i can hear is my surround sound and choose who sits next to me, bliss.
public cinema .....no thankyou

I wouldn't miss the cinema if they all suddenly disappeared one day.Woah matey! It's like you stole my brain waves and typed them up; that's exactly what i think, and the last two movies i've seen at the theatre as well.

I think i've only seen LoTR and the Star Wars movies in the last X number of years, i really cant be bothered anymore now i have PJ & surround sound. About the only bad thing compared to home and theatre is that if youve got a large group of mates to see a movie you cant always fit into your lounge (well i cant - damn London homes). Of course you're probably going to get quite a biased set of results on this forum.

Oh my word! Don’t think I could do it myself, although if I had a 20’ screen at home it’d be a different story! :)

the only memorable movies I have watched this year are Ep3 and War of the Worlds......

if I go to the cinema I only go to the Gold Class theatre at Vue Star City as ticket prices and the fact it is over 18's only - eliminates ALL kids and most chavs.....

I just hope my home setup does justice to the sound of those tripods in War of the Worlds....!!

I try to go once a week making the most of the Orange 241 deal when I can. I do tend to download the odd movie as well, but only ones that I'm mildly interested about, but wouldn't go to the cinema to see or buy on DVD, like Bewitched - awful

Never been tempted by pirate dvd's.

What's even worse is people that watch them ,admit that it was a camcorder recording, and then try and tell me the film itself was rubbish, like they can properly judge. :god:

The expense argument doesn't wash with me. You just need to try a little harder. I'm signed up with loads of movie type websites who occasionally offer free advance screenings (sometimes it's an unknown film). Also, I'm with Orange and each Wednesday we pile in to our local UCI for our buy one get one free offer (sometimes we both get a text ticket and see two films). We haven't paid full price for nearly two years. So I don't think it's bad to see a film for £4.60 for the two if us. It makes a difference when you go as well, because we arrive for the 5pm showings and it's relatively quiet, however when we are coming out at 7ish the whole world seems to be queuing out the door for their Orange Wednesdays.

I'm pretty fussy about sound and picture quality...so it really grates with me to have to watch something so substandard. Besides, being a movie lover it's nice to feel you are 'supporting' the business that generally gives you lots of pleasure, rather than ripping it off.

This year been to see Star Wars Ep III, Batman Begins (Twice-once at Imax once at Vue), Sin City, Willy Wonka, War of the Worlds and lastly 'The Descent' at Vue Leicester Square last weekend.
It was £11.00 to see The Descent, but there were some policemen in our group (stag do- don't worry we caned it the 2 previous nights before the cinema). Anyway they let us all in for free cos the cops were with us, saved us plenty of dosh, they must like people like that around the place (with the current climate round London).

I've been to most of the major films this year.

I've seen Star Wars (twice), Batman(twice), War of the Worlds, Wedding Crashers, Kicking and Screaming, Monster in Law, Fantastic Four and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory since May. F4 was the last one I saw.

The last time was about a month ago, saw the Wedding Crashers, then the Descent  and War of the Worlds  before that. Go through periods of going weekly (or more! ) but there is nothing that really interests me out at the moment and i am too busy watching American TV DVDs!

On the subject of Piracy, certainly a no-no for me. Have always refused them but unfortunatley it is seen as just a petty crime (or not even that!).

Some people i work with (average middle aged mums) get them all the time with out a thought, i've tried to warn them off but i just get laughed at! :god: I think my problem with it is, no-one knows where the money goes to and what its paying for!

The Mrs and I have a Nnlimited cinema passes with UGC £9.99 a month, can go as often as we want we tend to go once a week and see two movies and have a meal in between showings. I also go midweek with a mate while shes at work. Fantastic value for money If we only go to two films a month it saves us money.
Its made us broaden our horizons and watch more films because it costs us nothing extra :)

Last films we watched were Dark Water :boring: and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory :smashin:

Cineworld has just bought out UGC so hope I dont lose the unlimited card. :god: Still explains why my UGC has been badly in need of maintenance for a few months now. The powers at be obviously new they were selling up so didint spend any money on fixing toilet doors etc. :)

Ooh i fear some bad news may be coming your way! :god: I once emailed Cineworld a nice long email asking why they have never introduced a similiar scheme to reward their loyal customers, there response was highly negative and basically said no chance (unfortunately it was on my old PC so dont have it to hand), however looking on the bright side their toilets are always clean.....!

Or they could be really nice and introduce the monthly pass to all Cineworlds too (fat chance!) and then i would go a lot more. I can't believe th pass is only £9.99!!! I would still have it if it was £19.99!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I would pay £20 a month for it as well.

I got an email from UGC telling me that I could carry on using it for the moment,. I signed a 12 month contract so I suspect it may not be renewable once it has expired. :god:

Its actually gone up to £10.99 but not for me as I signed a contract
