I believe Amazon is the cheapest at the moment.

Sort of off topic here,,, anyway... Has anybody with an IXUS 700 had the cracked screen problem that SD500 (US model of IXUS 700) owners have had?

cost £270 and came with a 2 year warranty. I am happy with the camera and have not had any cracked screen problem. Me

Hi

UKDigital are currently out of stock. Not surprising at that price. I recently popped into my local Jessops with an Amazon print-out of their Canon Ixus 700 price of £275.66. They would knock the Canon Ixus 700 down to £294.94 but I don't think that includes a 3 year warranty like UK Digital.

I checked the price with Photoptix (Sheffield branch) who offered the excellent FZ3 deal earlier this year. I asked them if he would price match with an Internet price and the guy said "No, too competitive" and hung up immediately! I won't go there again with that attitude.

Cheers

Hi

I'm thinking to buy an IXUS 700.

I just stumbled on this American forum where I've found this post:

Quote:
I've received some information through my job that there is going to be an SD550 (SD500 = Ixus 700 in the States) comming out soon; our store has allready closed out the SD550, and I was curious if anyone knows what changes will be included on the sd550?

Is this credible, what's the usual lifespan for Canon digital cameras ?

Yves

I have just spoken to Canon UK about this and they have suggested that the Ixus 750 is due for release in October/November time. I have also spoken to UK Digital and they have suggested that they are infact due for release 1st September 2005.

Initial pricing indicates there will only be about £30.00 difference between the 700 and the 750. The 750 has a bigger screen and a couple of other features which make it worth holding out for in my opinion.

Cheers

Do you know if the Ixus 750 will fit inside the Ixus700 underwater enclosure (for diving)?

Thanks

Hi, I don't know for sure. I have noticed though that more and more information about the 750 has cropped up on t'Internet this past couple of days.

I see it has its own underwater enclosure...

Never mind I think Ill just buy the Ixus 700, I dont need the extra features and could do with a little bit of a saving....

It's got to be good for the consumer, if the 700 suited you needs, and you bought it, before the 750 was announced, then you'd be stuck with it at top price. With the announcement of the new model you can choose whether to get the latest one or take advantage of the inevitable biggish savings to be had on the older one.
Personally I think you're much better going for the one on the way out as the one on the way in. It's impossible to have the 'cutting edge' equipment for long anyway and the camera that was top class last week isn't suddenly crap this week.
Take advantage of the savings to be had, in three years time both cameras will be considered 'old hat' and the distinction between them will be blurred to say the least.
