Ok like most men i dont like to shed a tear....Bambi's mum got shot...tuff...she should have been more careful lol...but today I bought a copy of Schindler's List..I have seen the film before but not since its release and i forgot just how good the film is...the whole film is special because of what it tries to deal with( no one can really deal with that except the people that went through it)..Anyway the bit that really got to me was when Schindler was leaving and received the ring and broke down and instead of being happy he had saved so many people he beat himself up wondering how many more he could have saved just by selling the things he had with him...anyone else got a guilty tear they are hiding from a film ????

The last time I cried because a film hit me on an emotional level and not just because it was abysmal was when I was a kid and I felt so sorry for the little robot that got sent off on it's own at the end of Silent Running (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067756/)

the bit that really got to me was when Schindler was leaving and received the ring
Funnily enough, I felt the ring scene was the one flaw in this great movie.
I'd read about the "Spielberg happy ending" showing present/future generations. This scene, it could be argued, was justified as it demonstrated the survival/triumph of the spirit as well as a people.
But I felt the ring scene was inserted to cater to the american craving for schmalzy sentiment. The hero gets his recognition etc.
Thinking about it now, I also thought the red coat device was a little patronising. As if we might not get his point, so he adds this metaphorical finger to make sure we do.

Ditto....when I opened this thread, that was the film I was thinking of. Spooky.

Yeah Braveheart is a good one.....I know film directors and writers almost always change real events out all recognition from the facts, but cos such films are based on real people makes it more of a reason to make sure the lights are off so no one sees me blubbing lol knowing these people went through hell for what they did

Hi,
I'm sure to get laughed at for this, but there's only one film that still makes me shed a tear, and gives me a lump in my throat, ever since I first saw it at the cinema... and it's "An American Tail"!
The bit when Fievel Mousekewitz is separated from his family, still gets me to this very day!

Other films:
Lion King (one of my all time fav films btw)
The Green Mile (i dont think i can ever watch that ever again!)
Monsters Inc. (not so much a lump in throat or tears in the eyes but you gotta feel sorry for Sully when he has to leave Boo)
And the Slow down piano music in Bubba Ho-Tep is kinda haunting and also the end as well.

Sadness in a movie has a way of sneaking up on me when it's coupled with a powerful musical score. The song alone is henceforth given power over me.
Watership Down:
Hazel’s death scene, Fiver is left alone chasing the Death Rabbit, the song playing is Art Garfunkel Bright Eyes.
I don't think I could hold my composure if that song came on unexpectedly. It's so taboo that I can't even conjure it up now, thinking about the song. But something deep in the recesses of unconscious would recognize it immediately.
Midnight Cowboy:
Ratso dies on the bus to Florida with his buddy Joe Buck (John Voight) next to him. This classic tale of the dashed dreams of youth resonates with anyone who has ever grown up to a bitter cup of nobody gives a #$@^.
"Everybody’s Talkin'" is the song by Harry Nilsson. The odd time it kicks on the radio or in a public place, I feel a slight twist in my stomach. Nerves kick in at the injustice of it all and the grief over the loss of Joe’s only friend in the world.
Don’t be ashamed of it. Someone who can be brought to tears from a movie (even if we hide it in public) knows themselves in a way someone who cannot, does not. It’s indicative of emotional stability that is actually strength; statistically it’ll mean you have a better chance of surviving years of desperation in a Vietnamese prison. The macho-man who appears unaffected emotionally by anything is seldom more than a bottle of JD away from a razor blade and a handful of sleeping pills.

I thought the "Awakenings" with de niro and williams a bit of a chin wobbler. It hasn't been mentoned so far so maybe I wasn't my usual hard as nails self when I saw it. "Shine" was emotional as well, but I think in a happy way in the end.
