View Full Version : dts sound card
Is there any way that the HTPC can decode all the digital and dts and assorted ex es fromats then send a signal straight to a power amp.....it sounds like something that would be beneficial if it could.....no more upgrading processors, just up the software!

As far as I'm aware, no.
It would require a specific hardware card to provide the various audio outputs, and I've never heard of such a thing.
Whereas the 'traditional' home cinema PC uses standard hardware cards (video and sound card).

Hello Buns and Spectre,
This can be done with a Midiman Delta 1010 and certain versions of WinDVD etc.

Much info at the AVS forum, use the search function for '1010'

PowerDVD has built in AC3 decoding in software (6 speaker option). Using suitable multi channel card such as Delta Dio 1010 or HoonTech AudioDSP24 with external DAC, PowerDVD will output 6 discrete channels which can be fed directly to power amps. However, for everyday practical purposes this is nt very user friendly as yet.
nor is it very affordable by the looks of it!

The Midiman Delta 1010 is definitely the way to go, I took the plunge and it sounds way better than my Yamaha DSPE800, it does cost £530 inc VAT though.
Also you still need a means of volume control before the power amp stage.
or just wait for the new win dvd program 3.0 which can play dts :D
