Question Best card for 800x600 projector?

I am just about to build a pc to go with my projector.
It will be running at a fixed 800x600 when playing DVD's/games etc.
Would paying for a GEFORCE GTS PRO 64MB DDR be wasting my money, when only running at 800x600.
Or would a normal GEFORCE MX/RADEON do the job just as well?.......Paul

Thumbs up

Paul,

I would suggest the Geforce 2MX (the Hercules one) and these are great cards for DVD. I also have read excellent reports of the Radeon but specific Timing Resolutions are difficult on this card though you don't appear to want this feature.

Therefore the choice really comes down to budget. Personally running at 800x600 my Geforce 2MX's run games really well with all graphics options switched on. Quake 3 looks awesome for example. The higher spec 64MB card comes into its own at the much higher resolutions.

Personally I use a Geforce 2 64MB Ultra in my main machine, Geforce 2MX in the Lan Machine, Geforce 2 MX in the HTPC and an old TNT2 32MB in the Kid machine.

I'd recommend any Radeon DDR card which once tweaked is much better than a Ge-force. I've just changed from a Geforce DDR and the improvement is great, better colour gradation and good tones. A 64mb DDR VIVO can be had for about £130+VAT from Microdirect.co.uk
