AV Installer in Swindon

Am looking for someone to install my home cinema kit in Swindon (PJ, 5.1 setup and plasma).

Really struggling to find anyone that wont charge the earth!!

So far all I can find is Sevenoaks who want to charge me £300 per day per person

Seems like a lot so any advice would be appreciated!!

You need to define what you mean by "install". £300 per person per day is not excessive if that person is bringing £5,000 of test equipment to do the job - if he is simply mounting a plasma on a solid wall then maybe it is.

All they are doing is a physical install. Mounting the plasma, chasing the wires, getting power to the plasma and PJ etc.

To be honest, I'd think any installer worth having would charge £250/day or more. I was recently quoted £150 (by Sevenoaks) for a wall-mount plasma install with no chasing, if I was able to assist the guy in lifting it up onto the wall etc. as this would make it a one man job rather than a 2 man job.

I am just thinking this will be a 2 or 3 day job and that will make it more than I paid for the PJ and screen!!!

Seems a little steep to me is all?!

If it's £300 per day for 2 men i.e. £150 per man day then I reckon you are getting a good deal, you will not get cheaper even if you tried for a general builder and electrician - many custom install & A/V retail companies I know charge £250 per man day upwards and only install kit they have sold themselves - the overheads & direct costs make it uneconomic to do it for less.

If your job includes making good then 3 days sounds about right to me.

Its £300 per day per person and which ever way I cut it £900 to install this kit is too much!!

The PJ and screen only cost me £800!!

Sorry but the price of the projector & screen is not relevent to the labour costs to install it all - it would still be the same amount of work if you had a £10k screen & PJ. I still reckon if they are putting up a screen & PJ, plasma & speakers, running in the cables plus making good after then £900 is a fair estimate for an experienced install team. You will not get it from a reputable installer for much (if any) less. You may get an electrician or general contractor willing to give it a go for £200 a day or friends to do it for beer money, either may get it right or could leave you with less a than satisfactory install or worse with a worthless heap of broken glass or plastic on the floor!

Please dont be sorry you have done nothing wrong. I guess I wasnt making myself clear.

I am sure that is the going rate but as I only spent £800 on the PJ and screen it doesnt seem worth it TO ME to spend that kind of money having it installed.

All I am doing is checking IF this is the going rate, moaning about and (if it is the going rate) binning it!!

Not sure what I will do but I guess I will try and find an alternative!!

Cheers!

mrapbp, I don't know if you're still looking but there's a company in Chippenham that do AV installs and from all accounts they're very good. They don't have a website AFAIK but I can supply their phone number if required.

Clint.
