looking for a hack for dvd through pc

Anyone out there got a hack for a PC DVD player. I want to play both regions but need help????

A problem you have, hmmmm. But not a major one.

Step One - Find out what type of dvd player you have (My Computer - Properties)

Step two - Go to http://www.inmatrix.com/files/drvinf_download.html download Drive Info - this will tell you if your DVD drive is protected. If protected go to Step 3. If unprotected for to step 4.

Step 3 - Protected Drive, go to http://www.firmware.com.bi/ find "firmware" for your drive and download. Look at any text files accompanying the download, they will advise on how to install the firmware, this will hopefully remove the protection "hurdle".

Step 4 - Unprotected Drive, go to http://www.elby.de/RegionKiller/english/index.htm - download and run DVD Region Killer and there you have it multi-region hassle free viewing.

thanks for your help..... was told to be very wary of downloading from the internet as might not be able to use the DVD drive....is that possible..

Any decent firmware site worthy of a visit will tell you that you do this at your own risk. Some firmware updates (namely those from the site already mentioned, made by a chap called Noj or something) have proven to be superb. Others are just Drive killers. If in doubt, leave it out. I actually use two drives, one for each region. The toshiba drive is also multi region, via a firmware upgrade. Have a look at http://freespace.virgin.net/woof.bark

Alternatively, leave all this worries behind and simply buy an already region free drive from OcUK (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_CD_DVD_10.html). You even have a choice of beige or black fascia.

If you are uncertain of making a DVD region free yourself and want to save money by not having to buy two drives, this is an excellent choice.

Any idea what drive you have in your pc?

to find out go to 'control panel\system\devices' and have a look (for windows 95/8).
