Help with downloading RAW please

Can anybody help me with downloading RAW images please. I am not very computer literate so I will explain that which has happened so far.
Having taken about seven or eight RAW piccies I then connected my 20D to my computer. The message came up that there were no pictures in the camera. On advice I then bought a card reader. I have since inserted the Microdrive into the card reader and instead of images I get a Windows box with all of the images in it but not as pictures.
I just get a rectangular box with the image number next to it and the size of the image in kB.
Any help would be much appreciated.

When I plug my card into the reader a window opens on screen with options asking what I want to do. I choose 'open folder to view files using windows explorer' .

That then shows me the files on the card. I double click through the folders until I see the picture files (something.jpg) or the RAW files (something.CR2 in my case). I select all the files and then 'cut' them.

Now I use another explorer window and make a new folder on the hard drive where I want the files... go into that folder and 'paste' the files in from the card.

I have my explorer window view settings to 'details' so I do not see thumbnails of pictures normally.I also have it set to show file extensions (the .jpg or .CR2 bit). Whatever your view preferences the principle is the same.

There is an add on to windows to see thumbnails of raw files in windows explorer etc. Without that you will just see file names.

Once the files are on the hard drive you can open them with whatever program you use for RAW processing.

If you're using Windows XP then you'll find it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

I'm not sure if it's available for other versions of Windows though.

I really don't think there's any excuse not to be using XP at this point in time. It's 2005 for christs sake, it's been out for about 4-5 years, the next OS is only a stones throw away!

Rtfm

RTFM and load the software.
You need the manufacturers raw file reader to open/adjust raw files.
If you have Photoshop CS then that will read a lot of raw files if you check for upgrades.

I did as TOMATO1 suggested and sure enough there is a free download of Raw Viewer available from Microsoft.
Using this software and a card reader I was able to see the RAW images that I had shot earlier. Unfortunately, as the file title implies, it was to view the images only and I could not fiddle with them.
Thank you everybody anyway. The learning curve continues !

20D raw conversion

Hi, You should try installing the software that comes with the Canon 20D. Then go here http://software.canon-europe.com/Cam...S_20D10131.asp and install the updates. You could search google for Canon Raw convertor
