Denon DAB tuner
Denon have added a DAB tuner to their range. Looks nice and is colour matched to the XV series. Liked to know the price, but won't be released untill the middle of August. Pop on to Denons UK site for info. Also they now have the information about the 11XV......... at last.

I bought a silver Denon TU-1800DAB tuner from SuperFi yesterday for £249.95.
SuperFi seem quite a reliable store, they phoned me to let me know my tuner had arrived earlier than expected as
the Denon website now gives September as the release date.
The Denon DAB tuner is a very nice sounding piece of kit.
It's also ready for L-Band.

Mum just bought M35 DAB/CD receiver - DAB sound sucks - bland and unnatural.
FM sounds much warmer and sonically superior.
Will Lband improve quality at all? (Not that M35 does Lband)

Probably a stuuupid question but on the back of the Denon dab tuner, and i'm sure all the other makes, from the pictures I have seen there are two aerial inputs one for fm and the other for dab. Firstly are the connectors the same for both and does one have to connect both to get reception of both transmission types? Does this mean a splitter from one aerial lead input to the two connectors or what?  Told you it was probably a stuuupid question......please go easy on me.

You need a separate aerial for FM and DAB. DAB antenna has an F-input, FM - IEC coax socket.
DAB requires vertically polarised elements, FM horizontally polarised - see www.bbc.co.uk/reception for advice on DAB aerials.
It's best to buy a proper outdoor aerial for each - especially DAB - because indoor aerials have poor reception.

Thanks for that, I do have a roof mounted aerial for fm and you've now explained what I need to do when I get a dab tuner (bugger) , probably the Denon as I hope to purchase in the not too distant future the AVC A11xv. Thanks for the link as well.  for info  for new bloody aerial and lead.

Well I got the new aerial and lead installed, all I need to do now is to get the tuner.

If it's inconvenient to fit an external DAB antenna, I have been using a 'One for all' flat panel active (amplified) antenna (with a coax to F type adaptor) for nearly 2 years. It works really well, 100% signal on all channels.
One for All
They now make a much wider range of DAB and DVB-T active antennas for both indoor and outside. It may be worth a look.

We live in a cul-de-sac and it's in a dip so to get good reception on tv we need an outside aerial. So it was just a matter of fitting the dab aerial and lead to the tv pole where I also have an fm aerial. Wasn't a big deal hassle.........just extra cost.

The Denon TU-1800DAB tuner has been highly praised for it's sound quality in a review contained in the November 2005 issue of What HI-FI magazine.

What Hi-Fi is widely looked upon as being a comic, so I wouldn't take much notice of what they say if I were you.
I used to subscribe to it, but technically they get so much wrong it was untrue. As an example, they published a free extra thing all about MP3 stuff, and they compared the different audio codecs and they said that lossless audio "obviously" sounded worse than uncompressed audio. Lossless audio means that when decoded the bitstream is bit-for-bit identical to the original audio -- that's what lossless means.
