Unhappy Samsung dvdr100e

I bought brand new samsung dvd recorder(DVDR100E) after reading good review and looking at the samsung web site for specification mainly for auto detect DV(No disclaimer about compatibility issue) In for camcorder.I have digital sony camcorder.Unfortunately machine does not recognize my camcorder. After so many phone calls and letters to samsung ,they say there is no guarantee that machine will recognize every camcorder in the market though Sony is popular camcorder in the market. I spoke to local trading standard office over the phone but they say you should have asked for compatibility before you order. As a joe public you have not got faintest idea before purchase about this issue. Where do I stand now<
