Cambridge DVD55 VCD Playback Issue

Hello - I hope someone can help me!

I have a Cambridge DVD55. It works fine and plays all DVD regions etc.

However it doesn't play ALL VCDs:
It plays VCDs that I have made (usually ripped from DVDs), but it doesn't play "original" VCDs (I have loads of them from the old Philips CDI days).

I have already tried/entered the "hack" which puts the player into support mode, but it doesn't make any difference.

When I insert an original VCD (Four Weddings and a Funeral - for example), it scans the disc, identifies it as a "VCD 1.1", and then goes into stop mode!

Has anybody got any tips?

Thanks
