sorry if I am in the wrong forum or this has been asked before.
Can anyone suggest the best wiring up setup to get the best picture for vcr recording from SKY
Apart from the TV, skybox and vcr there is also a dvd player to fit in the equation.
At the mo the vcr is connected to the tv by scart and the skybox to the vcr by rf lead.
Ive also tried adding a scart lead from the vcr direct to skybox but this seems not to improve the picture.
I realise the taped pic is going to lose some clarity by virtue of the media but I would have thought a better picture was obtainable considering the superior quality of the sky picture on the tv
Hi
I assume that when you recorded with your new scart lead in place you sellected AV instead of a channel nuber, the best way to record is via AV.

Not sure about the av question, just set the channel on the vcr that receives the sky picture and record.
Yeah, not really interested in the sky+ thing, just seemed poor that such a good picture that we get on satellite renders into a not so good video picture.
Thought there may be a wiring solution to improve it
If as you say in the first post the VCR is connected to the digibox by RF then that would explain the poor picture and mono sound. I am not sure why when you tried using a scart it made no difference unless you still chose the RF input
Use a scart to connect the digibox VCR socket to one of the scarts on the VCR and then select the appropriate AV channel on the VCR (AV1, SA1, AV2 it'll be something like that). Assuming the cable is good and a nice fit between the cable and the sockets you should get the best possible picture a VHS machine can record.

Compared to a digital TV signal, a VHS machine is always going to look rubbish isn't it ? You'll make marginal improvements with cables, but as the old saying goes "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear"
