Encounters of the Plant Kind

Inspired by JohnG's shot...so credit goes to him.

Looking closely at the Passion Flowers in my garden I was amazed by the unusual structure of the main flower. Removed a flower & trimmed leaves from back to accentuate the tentacles. Placed on a dark green plastic watering can to give contrast & lines of texture to lead eye to plant. Shot with Nikon D70 & 50mm 1.8 with fill in flash to allow me to use F8 to keep DOF decent.

Tried using macro on 70-300mm SIgma, but gave up trying to handhold the beast

Ah, my father-in-law has one of these in his garden and I didn't have my camera with me at the weekend, so was going to go back and take a pic for this comp but i guess I won't now

It is a great shot mate, but i dont find flowers strange myself. But that's just me

But it's a great photo in it's own right
