how do i set my desktop to 1080i with the panny ae700?
im currently using 720p for my desktop, so it upscales my dvds to that resolution, but of course my true hi def films look better in 720p
what refresh rate do i need to set my desktop to for 1080i. i use powerstrip to make custom resolutions.
thanks

Why would you want to set your desktop to 1080i, the max res is 720p , anything over 720p will just be downscaled to 720p, seems pointless to me !!.

Hi if i remember correctly it actually uses a 30hz at 1080i but as fallwood said "Why?" the desktop looks worse in my opinion at 1080 because it is downscaled to 720. Mike

Seems like a lot of folks think that 1080i looks better then 720p.
Shame.

Right lets get this straight once and for all. The ae700 doesn't display 1080i , it can't its panels are 720p, it cant display interlaced cos it a progressive device, any interlaced signal is automaticaly deinterlaced by the pj, the image you see is 1280 x 720 progressive no matter what res you put into it. Yes it can accept a 1080i signal but it cant display it as 1080i. The best possible image is obtained by running your desktop at a pixel matched 1280 x 720 which is the units native resolution , any other resolution would involve scaling or deinterlacing which gives reduced picture quality. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesnt know what they are talking about.

EXactly what he said 1080 is only true 1080 on a true 1080 display NOT just a display capable of displaying 1080. Mike

The person asked what resolution they need to set their computer at to achieve 1080i they didnt say anything about the native projectors settings, as far as i'm aware they simply were asking what refresh rate they need in order to display a 1080i image ( scaled down to 720 by the projector )
The instruction manual states clearly what the refresh rate should be and its 60 and 50hz, i see no mention in the instruction manual about 30hz.

I think the point he was trying to get across is that there is no benefit to send a 1080 signal to the PJ.

I disagree, there is a benefit, the higher the resolution the smaller things onscreen will be and the more space you will have for multiple applications, with a traditional 17inch or 19inchscreen things get too small but with a huge projection screen it means you can fit a lot of different things onscreen thus great for multitasking and with the Panasonics great scaling features the picture quality will still be great.

Is it possible it might be because powerstrip was trying to set the refresh rate at 50 0r 60 hz?. my geforce 6600gt always set the rate at 30hz when i selected 1080 in order to get a picture on My ae700 projector. and as for 1080 looking better because it is smaller i believe is wrong, 1:1 pixel mapping will always give you the best possible image from two matching sources. look on any hi-def forum or even av forum for numerous threads on the subject. But hey thats just my experience as your not working with powerstrip is yours. But i did get mine working!. Mike
P:S I have numerous hi-def movies of both the 1080i/1080p 720p variety and on my ae700 there was no discernable diference to the display from either source on my ae700, only difference was my htpc was working almost twice as hard.

I didnt claim it looked better because its smaller i said if u multitask a lot then you can fit more on your desktop by selecting higher resolutions, nothing to do with looking better, this might have its uses for certain presentations ( powerpoint etc )
Like you i actually set to the projectors native resolution.
