marantz dr700 problem

Can anyone help me with a problem i'm having with my cd recorder. When i put a blank cdr in, the recorder just says ' NO Audio ' and will not allow me to do anything, apart from ejecting the cd. Does anyone know what should happen when you put a blank cdr in, i assume it should allow you to press the record button and auto start. Also should you be able to see the input level's before starting a recording or do you have to adjust it after the recording has started. I was given the CDr with no instructions, so any ideas will be gratefully recieved. many thanks
