Possibly looking to buy a new CD player in the near future and was just wondering whether there is much of an improvement (if any??) if you connect the CD player to your amp using the digital optical output instead of the analogue (red/white) connectors??
My present CD player (an old Technics) doesn't have an optical output so I have never been able to experiment.
I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will come along but AFAIK, it depends on wether the DACs in the CD player are better than those in the amp.
If you use the phone connection I believe that the DACs in the CD player will be used rather than those in the amp and vice versa if you use the optical connection.
I would suggest using a dedicated stereo amp to start with as that will give you a huge improvement soundwise for music. Almost any dedicated cd player over £3-400 will have better DACs than the Denon 2802 so I would stick to using the analogue outputs from any new player you buy.
