3G sim in 2.5g phone

Is it ok to use a 3G Orange sim in a 2.5G Orange phone. I understand that a 3G phone uses Orange 2.5 G when there is no 3G coverage and wondered if there was any problem in using a 3G sim in a non 3G phone.
Any advice?

When you say 2.5g phone Im assuming that you mean GPRS? 2.5g is probably more a reference to EDGE which Orange are rolling out just now.

Yes it is, Im currently using an o2 3g sim in a 6310i with no problems at all. I know that Hutchinson (three) were blocking people doing this but this was due to them actually roaming onto o2's network once they did this and so costing hutch money!

I doubt if you will have any problems.

certain phones wont except 3g sims due to a difference of voltage and some other issues i believe.
however 3g phones will take 2/2.5g sims no probs
