Question Channel Levels?

Hello all! When setting channel levels with my SPL meter I adjust to get a level of 75dB from all speakers (including the sub) as per my amplifier instuctions. Does everyone else do the same? Does anyone make any offset for the difference in the LFE handling between DD/DTS, what exactly is the difference?

Assume that you've used the amp's test signals to set up.

Whereas these results will be pretty good, even better results can be obtained using specialist audio visual set up DVD's (such as Avia or DVD Platinum).

However, the best sound set-up DVD I have used is that offered on Pink Floyd's DVD - The Wall. Full range bursts of pink noise are sent to each speaker in turn. This allows precise tuning especially where you have the centre or rear speakers LFE routed to the sub. Incidently, they recommend that the sub be set 3-4db higher than the other speakers (when running the test pink noise at around 85db).

Once I set the levels up using this disc I then experimented with the rear delay (no science here just do it by ear). I raised the rear delay slightly (to about 9-10ms on 5.1) and the imagery thereafter was amazing. Well worth the effort and the £15 cost of the DVD!!

Good luck.

Just out of interest is this the DVD that has the dts and DD demo's on it as I brought this ages ago and have yet to have a look it. What's the best way to use it if you don't have an SPF monitor. Any suggestions would help as I'm getting serious about HC now and have decent kit and have tinkered a lot using my ears and just need some advice really!!!!!!
