Like most posters here I'm trying to decide which camcorder to buy.
At the moment I'm torn between Panasonic current range of excellent reviewed machines and the Current Sony models.
The thing I most hate Sony for ripping you off with their overpriced extras like extra battery packs and memory sticks. Even the clone manufacturers charge a heafty price. For instance 32Mb non sony memory stick £23 where for about the same price you can pick up a non branded SD or CF card 128Mb!
However, we have a widescreen TV and so most of what we will want to keep will be viewed on a WS tv. Sony appear to be the only ones offering true widescreen recording.
What I want to ask is how do non Sony users watch their videos on a WS tv?
What do you do with a movie shot on a panasonic camcorder with no WS option?
Can't answer for the non-widescreen Panasonic users but I bought the Sony DCR-PE1000 on Saturday and it is very nice. I have the same views re Sony but figured I would not really be buying the memory sticks etc as I really just wanted a half decent DV Camcorder with widescreen. Having said that the "still" photo taking ability is quite superb for a camcorder!
I know the Sony does not do true widescreen (ie crops a little off the top and bottom" but I still prefer that to 4:3 pic on widescreen telly.
I know there are probably better cameras on the market but nothing is perfect and this sexy little baby should do just the trick!
My TRV33 does W/S by using more chip width, it does stills by using more chip height.
It was £600 from Jessops, but came to well over £700 with tapes, battery, firewire lead, case ect.
Quality is very good.
