New to camcorders: Panasonic NV-GS17 or Sony DCR-HC 22

Hello everybody.

I am looking to buy my first ever camcorder & was looking at the Panasonic NV-GS17 & the Sony DCR-HC 22. I will be mainly using it to capture footage of my, soon to be born, first child.

What makes the sony £100 more than the panasonic.

Are there any others that I should consider in the sub £300 market.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that boybrown it's quite useful, but no mention of the panasonic in that thread.

Does anyone have any opinions?

OK, I've just found out that the Panasonic doesn't have DV-in, so I will not be able to edit on PC then record back onto DV tape for keeping (should I wish to).

So I suppose that I have just answered my own question about the £100 price difference.

I am leaning towards the Sony, but will continue looking.

Gs17

I bought a gs17 today, There is so software or leads provided, Not sure how im meant to transfer footage from the camera, its recognised by windows as a webcam and capture device, but not sure what software i need. I think the features on the camera are good though.

B/W Viewfinder

This may sound stupid so forgive me if it is, but can someone tell me if the LCD screen is colour or B/W, on pixmania it only states B/W viewfinder, no mention of the LCD.

Thanks
