i have been looking around recently for something to replace my UDM31.
I came across the Linn Classik and the reviews seem fantastic and it really seems to fit the bill. But after coming to this site im wondering whether seperates might be a better way to go?
I basically want something for stereo use that will give me excellent CD playback while allowing me to plug in some kind of network media player. Im currently thinking the Roku M1000 running slimserver to allow me to stream my FLAC collection.
my only issue with the Linn Classik is it does not seem to have any digital inputs :/
So i was wondering with a budget of around £800 [not including speakers or the M1000] could i get something that would rock the linn?
I would also audition the new Arcam Solo which costs a little bit more at £1000 excluding speakers. In my opinon it is quite a bit better sounding than the Classik.
You would probably have to look at an AV amp if you want digital inputs which unless you go for the likes of Arcam AVr250 will not sound as good or better than Linn option.
i would defiently look at a Quad CD-P & QUAD 909 which has digital inputs and would sound far better than the solo imho. Please note though that I haven't heard the Solo...though I have quite abit of arcam gear.
If anyone wants to check out Arcam Solo reviews then our US distributor's website has a good selection including a number of reprints. This includes this month's Stereophile as well as the UK press. See http://www.aslgroup.com/arcam/ReviewsSOLO.htm
