Question Initial chargin of batteries... how long?

Any current thoughts on this?
Do you still need an interrupted 12 hour plus charge?

An 8 to 12 hour charge was the norm for nicads, but I am not so sure it applies to Li-ion cells.

A number of phone instructions make no reference to a time, other than it should be 'fully charged' before first use.

If you also consider that current chargers will fully charge the battery in typically less than 1 hour, there does not appear to be any reason to let it continue after this time.

I just fully charge, and I have never had any problems with early battery failure.

Obviously.

But in the context of 'first charge before use' what is the purpose purpose of letting it trickle charge for an extra 8/10/16 hours etc after it is fully charged?
