Entertainment cabinet help please

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone here is willing to help me with some ideas on an
entertainment cabinet I need to have made up. Need help with colours, design etc,

I have a floorplan and a rough sketch of what I want to do but would like to get some advice/opinions before taking it to the production stage.

Anyone care to assist and should i just post it to the group for general
discussion.

Thanks,

Julie

Do you want a locking front? Sliding glass or traditional closing doors? If you did go for this then it would probably be worth securing the back of the unit somehow as well.

Adjustable shelves will be a must and also make sure that everything's sturdy enough to hold your equipment safely and has adequate cooling around the relevant devices!

I always fancied a high-gloss black finish on a cabinet with silver equipment (I usually prefer black equipment but think this combo would look great) unfortunately dust will be your enemy.

Here is what I have in mind. What do you guys thinks?

Any suggestions appreciated. Looking for super contemporary here

Need to work out:
1. How best to hide wires
2. If I should use matching caeserstone or a contrasting colour
3. etc etc etc

Cheers,

Julie

If you're prepared to spend the money then I would recommend something with solid doors and an IR repeater system. I have a cheap glass doored cabinet and I'm always disappointed that all the units are different sizes, shapes and slightly different shades of black and silver. I wish the whole lot were out of sight and in your space I would think that would be important.

Julie ,all of your designs looks great to me!

I would have the bench with sliding doors or just one flip down door so everything is hidden

I suppose the wires should be buried into the wall or on a board if you wall mount your flat screen.

I am in a similar situation and have just bought a similar white high gloss kitchen.

I have a lot of AV equipment that SWMBO requires hidden anyway (8 tivos, 6 freeview boxes, 2 sky boxes, amp, dvd, 2 vcrs).
So a sideboard (about 2m x 1m x .45m) and a tall cabinet (2.2m x .6m x .45m)
are needed that can take 80kg of kit giving out 0.7 kW of heat.

I am after a similar contemporary look, but perhaps a bit less super stylish and more classic, as I live in an Art Deco block.

So I am looking for something, maybe in wenge, thats better than IKEA but not the sky high prices that Purves.co.uk, Chaplins.co.uk and so forth charge.

Its now looking like Bo Concept, Habitat and John Lewis are in my price range of about 800 quid total.

Any other suggestions?

Are Ocean.co.uk and Dwell.co.uk good enough in quality?

Cyril,

If you know they type of thing you want, why don't you have a chat with a local cabinet maker. I have been down a similar route and ended having a cabinet custom made and it does not have to cost the earth.
It cost me just over £1100.00 which for a cabinet that is 3500(L) x 750(H) x 700(W) in oak. Here are some pictures to give you an idea.
The Idea.

The Finished product

A few more pictures over in, Get your plasmas out for the lads - Pt II

Hope that helps.

UPDATE:

Hi guys,

Still working on the design.

Please see attached 2 options which pretty much show where im at atm.

The big cabinet is for crystals with drawers on the bottom shelf. All power etc is behind the drawer so all will be well hidden. Audio gear is to right. Decided to now go with an open design (to ensure ventilation is not an issue). Both units will have a solid top on them. Besides that they will be predominantly glass with with a polyurenthane/hardwood/stone base. Unit will be designed to give the impression that it floats off the floor and will have no door handles.

Option 1 differs from option 2 in the sense that it misses the bottom drawer and av gear starts lower - which do you think looks better?

Bottom drawer beneath crystals can used to hold dvds or perhaps modified to hold some av gear - dvd, stb, surge protector, etc thereby leaving av rack for amps and prepro only - visually could look very good - again, what do you think?

Shelves for av gear will be adjustable and where there are drawers/doors they will have no handles.

Like the gear from www.soundations.com , especially Ritz2 and Limelight2 and hoping to get some ideas to incorporate into my design

Still trying to follow on with a super contemporary unit.

Feedback please?

Cheers,
