What Cable?

Hi,

I want to future proof my system
I have a projector with DVI input and an HCPC with DVI output.
Would I need a HDMI cable as well just to be sure.
I would need 10 meters.
How much would I need to spend on such a cable/s.
I have seen some that are hugely expensive!!

Hello Chris

If you already have a 10m DVI cable in place and working then all you'll require is an HDMI/DVI adapter at either end of the installed cable should you add an HDMI equipped Source or Projector.

Keep in mind if you add an HDMI equipped Source you also have to ensure your DVI equipped Projector is HDCP compliant.

If you don't have a Digital cable as yet then an HDMI cable is a slightly safer bet than a DVI cable at 10m - though as you have DVI Inputs/Outputs it'll cost more for a cable plus adapters.

My Projector id HD compliant, but only had DVI input.
I made the mistake 2 years ago, but Ididn't know...I installed...in the walls...RGB, Component, composite, s-video and VGA. But no DVI or HDMI
The cable length I gotwas 10metres which was just about ok.
I have heard of a company doing DVI of a 10 meter length, stating they use a special core so longer runs don't effect quality????
I guess I may have to bite the bullet and chase the walls again .

Ah those 'Special Cores' again - they do seem to pop up in a lot of cable literature that lands on my desk

The BetterCables cables we supply are all tested to carry up to and including 1080P at 60Hz to ensure they don't degrade the signal in a Home Theatre set-up.

How far you'll send a DVI signal over any copper cable depends on the combination of the Transmitter Circuitry, the Cable and the Receiver Circuitry; the cable manufacturer cannot Guarantee anything if its not aware of the quality of the Signal being transmitted by the source device.

Your 'predicament' is a good pointer for anyone currently installing cables in walls - someone last week was arguing that it was an unnecessary expense to install a Digital Video cable if you don't have a DVI or HDMI equipped Source/Display!!!
