Toshiba rptv will not come out of standby

I've got a Toshiba 50WT29B rptv. It is three years old. Since yesterday it will not come out of standby. After a many "on and off" cycles it eventually did last night but today it just sits there with only the red light on.

Is this a common problem? Can I fix it myself or is it a specialist job? It is not in warranty.

Recommendations please.

Thanks

You might have better luck in the normal tv section. This section is for DLP rear pro's.

Have you checked the manual for fault diag?

Also has the picture started to fade? If so it could be the guns are failing.

OK. I wasn't sure where to post. Can a mod move it please.

There is no mention in the manual about faults like this.
The picture is excellent when it does eventually start up. I've just got it working by repeatedly pressing the on/off button on the front panel.

You may have more luck in the general TV section.

I also have one of the 50WT29B's,and so far have had no problems, thankfully.

A quick look through the service manual I have has also been unhelpful, but given that your picture is fine once the set has started up,it's mo likely to be an intermittent fault somewhere, possibly in the HT section,as the guns generally don't give a faded picture as much as obvious colour faults if they're failing.

From what I've read it seems it could be a capacitor on the HT board that is a fault. They all "look" OK so it seems to be beyond my capabilities.
Can anyone recommend a Toshiba TV Repair Engineer in West Yorkshire?
Thanks.

fault you discribe sounds like dry jpints on text module
common fault on these around QT09

Refer any service to Toshiba approved service agent
we have cleared up a lot of mistakes by repairers over the years who seem to misdiagnose and leave

hope this helps

Thanks. I've got a Toshiba approved engineer coming out tomorrow.
He also suggested it could be a dry joint on the ttext module. Apparantly quite common.
Hope he fixes it!

All fixed. Two minute job. He put his hot air gun on the IC on the TText board and everyting is OK again.
I'm pleased it wasn't anything more serious.

Re: Toshiba rptv will not come out of standby

Hi. I have a toshiba 50wt29b rear projection set which has worked fine for 4 years until now. IT went click and the screen has gone blank. The sound is still okay and the tv appears to work but for no display, even if you press the tv menu.

Is this a common fault? I used to repair computer screens years ago so if someone has any idea or may have a service manual that would be great.
