Smile PC VGA out to Component in on Plasma?

Good morning.

I have been searching for an answer to the following question but to no avail so I have decided to post in the hopes that somebody can help me

I have a Panasonic TH-42PW6 Plasma mounted on the wall of my living room with a Van Damme component cable running behind the walls into my AV cupboard under the stair where I keep all of my kit. I am currently using a Zektor HDS4 Component switch to relay the video via component to the Plasma and I now need connect up my PC to the HDS4 / Plasma too.

My question is: Can I get a VGA to Compenent cable and simply connect my PC up or do I need some kind of convertor box to convert between the two?

I am struggling to get an answer by myself so if anyone knows please let me know.

Many thanks

Dave

You will need a converter as a VGA output is RGBHV signal. RGBHV and YUV component are different signal types that are not compatable with each other.
Do you have a VGA socket on the plasma? If you do then you can just connect the PC directly into this. RGBHV is the best quality analogue video signal, so you don't really want the expense and quality loss (although it should only be slight) of converting to YUV.

Mark.

If your happy to use the Displays User menu to switch between YUV and RGBHV when you want to view the PC them all you require is a new cable between the Output of the HDS4 and the VGA Input on the Display.

The HDS4 can switch YUV and or RGBHV so as long as the Display accepts both on its Input your sorted - if only the Display Auto switched between YUV and RGBHV

So your cable requirements are as follows - HD15 to 5RCA between the PC and the HDS4 and 5RCA to HD15 between the HDS4 and the Display.

Best regards

Joe
