Benefits of Uni-directional Scart Lead?

Dear AVForums,

I read with great interest (Keene Electronics Website) that you can buy a scart lead which is Uni-Directional.

Keene state that using one to connect a DVD player to a TV reduces ALL possible interference which may be caused by a conventional Scart lead.

I thought finding a uni-directional scart lead would be easy (Keene sell them),
but, other AV retailers don't seem to stock them.

Can anyone help me. Please!

cut a couple of pins off a normal fully wired SCART, and you end up with a Uni directional SCART (pin 19 from one end, and pin 20 from the other end).

This will remove the chance of video loopback, that can show as a double image, or a faint ghost image from another tv channel on your screen. Almost any cheap SCART becomes a top quality SCART if you do this to it.

Benefits of Uni-directional Scart Lead?

Dear PJClark,

Thanks for replying. Which tool should I use to cut the pins?
Any chance of a pic or diagram showing the pins I need to cut?
Thank you in advance.

Just repeatedly bend the pins until they break.

There are plenty of Unidirectional SCART cables on the market - most Manufacturers label them as 'RGB Only'.

Rather than snipping pins/wires they tend to use a Multicore cable with less conductors than a Fully Wired SCART cable and use thicker conductors and better screening so you remove the unwanted effects of a fully wired cable and potentially have less resistance in the cable into the bargain.

You tend to pay a premium for the RGB Only SCART cables - SUPRA AV6 (RGB Only) and AV6.4(RGB with Stereo Audio) and QED SQUART are two we often use.

Best regards

Joe
