Help! - problem with sound calibration

I've got a problem with my audio setup and as I'm fairly new to these things I need some help to fully understand what the problem is

I recently bought a Denon UD-M31 and a pair of Mission speakers (not M51s) which worked great but now I can only get minimun volume from it, apart from on a couple of occasions when it bellows out maximum volume.

I don't know if its a problem with the receiver or speakers and whether ther's an easy fix for the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated

hmm.. I have a Denon M30 that exhibits this behaviour sometimes. I keep changing the source until I come back to CD (if i want to play CDs) and the volume control is ok. havent sent it to Denon as this fix works .. its irritating - but doesn't happen all the time
