Wireless K/board & Mouse - Missus's Ar*e
Well it took a good 3 months but the missus has finally started whinging about the fact that she has to sit on the floor on the downstairs PC to work and surf the net as the range of the keyboard and mouse is too short.
Basically I need a Wireless Kboard & Mouse with a 3 metre range. I have about £40 ($80) to spend on this. However I can't seem to find a keyboard and mouse with such a range. Ideally with 'hot' keys.
Anyone know of any bundles with such range?
As always, your help much appreciated.
Thanks
Branny

To get the 3m you are after you are almost certainly lookin at a Bluetooth set, which unfortunately is double your budget.
If anyone knows of a cheaper way to achieve what branny is after I would also like to know, as my current set up is only good for about 1.5m (Trust 305KS Wireless Optical Deskset) which is only achieved once I havs slid the coffee table forward!!

I am using a BTC 9019URF.
It has a 3m range, programmable hotkeys, and inbuilt joystick/mouse.
It uses RF instead of IR and so doesn't need line of sight; in fact my RF receiver is out of sight in my TV cabinet behind the PC
The thumb joystick is slower than using a mouse but I find it an expectable compromise for neatness.
More info in this review
It's under £30 inc VAT but I can't remember where I bought it from

Gents
Thanks for all your advice. I had done some reasearch and looked at the Gyration but it is V costly, so I am going to go for the BTC.
Will be a little weird for me with no mouse but tjhe missus will love it I reckon (because it will be simpler!!!).
Once received, I shall post my comments on it.
Thanks again
Branny

Hi there Branny ... has the BTC arrived, what are your thoughts?? My sofa is 4m away from my screen, what sort of range are you getting in practice?

Its not bad. I sit about 3 meters away and it worls most of the time. Lean forward a little and its fine.
However, I have gotmy receiver nicely tucked away so this will be affecting the reception distance. Overall, I would highly reccomend it for £18!!!
Cheers
Branny

Is my BTC faulty then? I can get about a 0.8 meter out of it, the receiver is on top of the tv and it just does not seem to go any further.
Would anything interfere with it?
Any help appreciated

That's not right mate, 10ft here. Doubt anything has a frequency close, wouldn't effect distance, just wouldn't work.

I have a IR keyboard/mouse thingy - if you are losing signal try changing the batteries - mine go after about 10 hours useable and the first sign is a poor signal (in the end I gave up buying them and use the rechargeable batteries from my home phone!!!).

I can get about 4 to 5m easly from my BTC, but I did notice that placing it directly under my plasma made it very intermitent. Where as it works fine hidden in my AV cabinet behind my HTPC.
I suggest finding somewhere else to place it, remember it doesn't have to have line of sight.

Thanks all for the advice
I will chuck some fully charged rechargeable's in and see if that makes a difference (hopefully!) as I really like the size of the keyboard.
As for positioning I thought it does not matter but currently have had to stand right in front of the device to get it working.
