Samsung release 8 Mega Pixel Camera with 15x Optical Zoom (28 - 420mm ) !
DIGIMAX PRO815
Rumours are it will sell for £600, but without IS I'm not sure how you'd keep the shots in focus at full zoom
Details here

This is the sort of camera that a lot of compact owners have been waiting for. Something with a good number of MP and super zoom. It has pretty much been either or up until now. Hopefully Canon, Olympus or Nikon will follow suit.
Has it definitely not got IS ?
Matt.

Shutter lag is 0.05 seconds as well which is very impressive for a non DSLR. I could be wrong but I think that is faster than the 20D.

Looks like the gap between the 2 is getting even smaller.......as always the picture quality will be the deciding factor on whether they've cracked it or not.

It's pretty groundbreaking so inevitably will be high - I reckon within 6months it'll be under £400.
Wasn't the EOS 300D well over £1000 when first released ?
Let's wait and see what it produces - It sounds pretty impressive but the proof of the pudding etc....

I'm sure the whole big deal for the 300D on launch day was the first DSLR under £1000 - At £999.99!
That lens with that spec for £600? That's less than the nikon/sony/canon prosumers, of the same level, i expect it to sell well, the only hinderence i can imagine being the lack of OS and people returning their cameras because their new 8mp camera is all blurry!

1 huge colour TFT on the back (looks nice BTW)
1 colour LCD on the top
I wonder why they gave it a huge battery?
What was wrong with making the rear LCD a swivel out one I wonder?

Crikey - this could ruffle a few feathers if it's decent.
