Dvd Hd Query

Just about to buy an HD LCD and HD DVD player - just got one query...

Will the picture of a standard DVD movie played over HD DVD to HD LCD be noticeably better?

or is this only relevant when you get a HD DVD movie etc?

Many Thanks

I think he means a DVD player that is HD enabled by upscaling the picture of normal DVDs to 720 or 1080 through HDMI.
(ie Denon 2910 or 3910)

To answerwardsters Q. Yes you will see a big difference in picture quality at 1080i or even 720p. Just make sure to test it all on the best possibel DVD disks that are out there. I recomend:

Fifth Element R1 Superbit. Spiderman 2 R2 (NTSC, Jp) Superbit.

Terminator 2 Extreme Edition R1. This DVD was made from the HD source and has a flawless picture.

There are many more good DVDs out there that have near HD quality picture through an upsacling DVD player and HD screen.

Had a hunch thats what was meant. Like AML said, you should notice quite a difference. Although my HD945 is a the budget end of hdmi players the PQ through hdmi is superb. There is the odd old dvd thats a bit naff but the vast majority play wit a new lease of life.

Will something like PowerDVD upscale standard DVD's to 720p or 1080i if your PC and LCD is up to it? Just weighing up whether to plump for a Samsung HDMI DVD player to go with my LE26R41B..

Gfx cards usually only allow output at 480p. Things like AnyDVD circumvent this and you can then use ffdshow to upscale.

Cor this Hi-def business is confusing! Thanks anyway though.. will go and read up. The WMHD demos I've seen look better than 480p though.
