Home Cinema systems or components

I'm looking for a complete Home Cinema system either with DVD or DVD-recorder. Nice sound from "good-looking" speaker package.

What do you recommend?? First of all, a system or components?
I have been looking at some options:

Systems:
Denon DHT-500SD
Panasonic SC-HT520
Panasonic SC-HT870
Panasonic SC-HT1500
Pioneer RCS-9H

Components:
Receiver:
Yamaha RX-V650
Yamaha RX-V557
Onkyo TX-SR 502
Pioneer VSX-1014

DVD:
Samsung DVD-HD945
Onkyo DV-SP 402
Pioneer DV-575

Speaker package:
Canton Movie CD-1
KEF KHT-1005
Infinity TSS-750
Harman Kardon HKTS11

Please help me in this jungle of products... I'm thinking of a prize range for the whole system of maximum 850£

You are in a similar boat to me and I have posted a similar thread. Although I have upgraded (in my head) my system thought to the Denon 550 (£540 Peter Tyson) SD over the 500. (altho this is actually separates I was tempted because I could do with upgrading my DVD player anyway)

I was looking on the component side at the Yammy 657RDS (£301 Pixmania)and the M-S Avant Premiere Plus Speakers (£479.90 Peter Tyson).

What I cant find out is if the sound is going to be better from the separates (an extra £240) as I feel altho they are very well rated I am going in bottom end for components and more top end for all in one.

It seems not many have the answers out there!!!

My ramble may not help you but will let you know there is someone else out there in the same boat!

On a separate issue having read these forums I now have to wait a few more weeks for my screen as I was going to get the Philips 9986 and now armed with AVForums info have decided to wait for the 9830...

Go component, if one part fails or needs upgrading it makes this very easy to do.

Would I recommend any of your choices? certainly. Which ever sounds the best to your ears.

Components. In terms of sound, they give the best VFM - even if they are more expensive than the packages. Simple really, you get what you pay for. All all-in-one packages have compromises built in.
