Here is my first effort for the photo competition - next month I will try and take something especially for it.

This sign is at the side of a salt lake near to Larnaca airport, and I just found it amusing. OK, there is some point to it - the lake dries out in the summer, and so people might be tempted to try and drive across it.

Apparently some years ago they used to harvest the salt from the lake bed each summer when the water dried out, but these days there's too much pollution so it just gets left.

The picture was taken with my old Fuji digital compact and has had auto-levels and a bit of cropping done in Elements.

Regards,
John

Is the sign actually at a salt flat ?

Nice shot monorider. Wouldn't it have been great if you'd caught someone driving in the background! Still, a great shot mate.

Could be, I'm not too au fait with the difference between a salt lake and a salt flat. Basically the Larnaca "Salt Lake" fills up with water in the winter, then dries out over the summer. By the autum (when that picture was taken) it's almost completely empty.

I've always heard it referred to as "the salt lake", but maybe salt flat would be more correct ?
