Oh No! Have I broken it?

I tried to upgrade the software on my iScan HD using my Mac and a serial adaptor. The upgrade failed with an ERR1 and after a power recycle, the unit shows LOAD on the display and won't reset

Have I now got a (very expensive) door stop, or is this situation retrievable?

Help...

Managed to borrow a friend's PC to do the upgrade.
