B&W CDM 1 SE and ARCAM sounds HARSH? WHY?

So my systemis as follows:

Arcam Alpha 8r integrated
Arcam alpha 9p power amp
Arcam alpha 8 CD Player
B&W CDM 1 SE
VanDenHul CS-122 speaker cable with D-102 mk3 interconnects

Sound has brutal resolution and dynamics but it is hard on the ears , highs are harsh ,
It lacks a bit of warmth too.

I bought all of these used from a friend, but I was told that it takes some time for components to mix together (BURN-IN)
??? TRUE??
What is the problem? should I change to new cables and which?

well, both the CS-122 and D-102 are not the best in the high frequencies. They both tend to overdo the high notes. I would also expect that your voices are a little bit "tight" or "small".

Try some other speakercables 1st (whatever you can get your hands on)

I agree. Finding a speaker to your liking which may not be liked by others or may not be approved of others...

I find most brands out there to be very harsh.. polk.. paradigm... psb image series... i found the AE Aesprit series to be not so bad...

but its all dependent on what you prefer...

i am anti-harshness and arcam in its class has little or no harshness if paired with fitting speakers.
