Best media extender for mce2005??

OK, after getting my htpc with lcd, and also the plasma side all up to scratch I'm now looking into a wireless solution to stream dvd's on hd of htpc to both the bedroom and kitchen. Ideally i need 2 devices so i need to keep the cost down, i would like the device to have scart out so just one cable for sound and video. I have a wireless router connected to the pc as well. any ideas guys??

I have seen the new phillips streamium;

http://en.streamium.com/products/sl300i/

But will this work with mce2005? and will it stream video on demand?

I am just installing my xbox as an extender this weekend. First impressions are pretty good, but I have not got the Microsoft Extender software/kit yet, as having to get it importedf from the US. But have xbox media center which plays back all files except the dvr-ms and of course, live tv from the MCE.

Wireless failed miserably, even with a Super G 108mbps connection. Okay for Divx, no go for ripped DVD's. Am sending it back and laying very long cables through walls

No experience of any other extenders to compare, but this seemed a bargain as for £150 the modded xbox plays games and streams all media from across the network, picture quality very good with the advanced scart cable.

yeh i looked at the xbox option, to me its a bit chunky and not really the kind of thing i want next to my toaster! but i have heard that the extender is one of the better ones to chose from.

i'm hearing that all the extenders are struggling to stream avi/mov files using wifi, with people experiencing lag and audio sync problems. I think it may be easier to link up some ethernet cables to these seperate rooms to connect the extenders to my router. this may well stream video better. i think i might wait for the full uk release of the media center 2005 approved extenders this summer, i did see on ebay.com a US seller selling these for $310 for 2 delivered, which is pretty damn cheap, but there may well be connectivitiy issues what with the us formats.

The Philips Streamium technology is not compatible with MCE

The downside is that Streamium is a proprietary Philips technology.
On the plus side, because I guess it is proprietary, it is one of teh only Audio and Video distrubution solutions that actually works over wireless networks

I have seen it demonstarted and it worked great !
I am considering buying one of the AV units to try it out as I already have a wireless network. It comes with all the software for installing on your wirless enabled PC
