DV29 CD Playback

Hi,

I just wanted to query , if it is normal for certain cd's not to play via the DV29. I have maybe 10 CD's that are not recognised with the Arcam returning a "No Dvd" , when inserted. The strange thing is that rarily but on the odd occasion it will pick it up.
I always play my CD's via the CD inputs on my AVR300 on Stereo bypassing any DSP circuits with Direct button enabled.
If anyone can help - Is this an issue with other Arcam DV29 users , or is there something I'm doing wrong ??

Never had a problem playing any cds on mine so far. Have you tried giving the lens a clean?

Hi, Crustyloafer,
I have only just started using the DV29 so it is still fairly new. Is it still possible that the lens is dirty ?
When I insert DVD movies it has never had any problems accessing and reading the disk.I believe that all Arcams are fitted with dual laser mechanisms for both DVD and CD playback ! I suspect that it may be a problem with the cd laser mechanism if anything.

I hope my Arcam retailer can resolve this problem. He believes it may be that the CD'S I can't access have some issue with the copy protection encoded on them and that the DV29 might have issues with the current firmware in regard to this !
Wow this hurts , knowing what this DVD players worth !!!

CD's with PC content

Hi

My Arcam DV27A has problems with some CD's that have PC content on them. (For example Dido's No Angel)

If you look in Crusties sticky thread the latest firmware says it improves the handling of these sorts of CDs. It may be woth getting it updated. I am thinking of doing mine at some point.

Hope that helps

Dave

steeled,

I checked the software / firmware version on my DV29 and it said that I had 5.17.0, so I believe I have the latest available.
I also gave it a lens clean with a DVD / CD Cleaning disk but this had no effect.
Crustyloafer do you have the latest software/firmware available for the DV29 . I might try to re-install it to see if this clears up this issue !
Starting to draw blanks !!

Are these cds store bought printed discs? Or something you backuped up from computer on a CDR?

It they are printed then im not sure.

If they are cdr discs then it may be the discs themselves... blue being the troublemakers. Buy a decent brand and retry?

Also if they are printed maybe a test by making a backup from your pc and trying the backup can further assist you in the troubles you are having.

Radio,

All of the CD's not working were store bought originals and not CD-R's . I have copied some of these CD's just to see if they would work. All of them are picked up by the DV29 and play accordingly. This leads me to believe that the DVD player does not have software issues but has problems with certain types of original CD's printed layout stamped on them. Somehow I believe the laser is affected with it's reading capability on these culprit CD's !!!
