Panasonic 95 works with 8 speed media!

I've been using Ritek x8 printable disks, from bigpockets.co.uk, on my panasonic 95 which are about a fiver for a spindle of 25.

They seemed fine, with a very low failure rate, when i used them on my PC and they seem to work fine in the panasonic too. I read on this Forum though, that 8 speed media will not work with dvd recorders so i was a bit perplexed!

Am i taking unneccassary risks using these disks, they seem to work fine on my panasonic and my Marantz (though i lent one to a friend and he said there was the odd glitch here and there on his, but he was using a £20 Asda DVD player!)

Is it safe to carry on or is there more reliable and as economical 4 speeds recommended out there. I gather Ritek have a good reputation and bigpockets.co.uk seem very efficient. Any thoughts out there?

I use the same discs as JohnG with my XS32, no problems.
I don't know of any problems using 8X -R discs with a 4X recorder. There are issues with -RW between 2X and 4X, but not with -R between 4X and 8X. My Sony PC recorder is also only 4X max, I asked them about using 8X and they told me that 8X discs should work fine (which they do).

The RDXS32, Ex5 series and Sony 100 series DVD recorders are not entirely 8x DVD-R compatible. However they will still work with many 8x DVD-Rs - there isn't the fundamental compatibility problem as there is with DVD-RW 2x/4x.

Panny Issues related to TDK X8, which have been corrected by firmware, I don't know what the problem was though, if a brand of DVD-R works for you, then stick to it !

The key point, to address the original question, is that if you are using a quality 8X disc and it works, then there is nothing to be worried about.
