LG new DVD/HDD models worth considering?

Hello all. This is my first post although I've been visiting this forum for a long time.

I would like to buy a DVD/HDD recorder but the choices that are available to me are quite limited (ironic considering that I live in Hong Kong).

Recently, LG Electronics have released one of their new DVD/HDD recorders onto the market here in HK. More details are in the following webpage:

http://www.lge.com/catalog/prodmodel...00000&model=1#

The HK model is actually RH7823 but it is virtually identical to the Korean model. This LG dvd recorder has everything that I want...

- 160GB HDD
- multi format
- dvd dual layer recording
- DV input (essential to me)
- 4 hour full resolution
- divx / xvid playback

One thing I can't verify is whether it has component in/out. RGB scart is irrelevant as HK doesn't support it.

So what I want to ask is whether it is worth getting compared to the big brands (eg. Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, Pioneer etc.)?

I know a lot of forum members gave good marks to the Toshiba XS34 and Panasonic EH50, but unfortunately both models are not yet released here in HK.

Thanks in advance.

sorry, I forgot to add...

Does anyone know whether LG recorders have flexible record (and editing) options found on the toshiba and panasonic range of models?

I very much like to use a screenshot or jpeg picture as the menu background. It isn't essential, just that it would be nice to be able to.

Yes it has component out. Take a look at the manual (you can get it by going to the "service site" from the link you sent).
It doesn't appear to have flexible record (only has 4 quality settings). I also don't see any option to use a custom menu background, but I only looked quickly.
